Free Wills Month is a national, month-long event taking place in October. Charities, solicitors, and will writing firms come together to offer both individuals and couples the opportunity to make a will for free. This event covers locations across England, Northern Ireland and Wales.
If you’re aged 55 years or over, don’t miss this opportunity to have your will legally drafted or updated by a participating solicitor free of charge.
Bringing together a whole host of incredible and deserving charities, Free Wills Month aims to raise awareness for their causes. Although by participating in this campaign, there’s no obligation to gift or leave a donation for supporting charities, Free Wills Month hope that many people will see this as an opportunity to support their favourite cause.
Some of the Free Wills Month frequently supporting charities include:
- Guide Dogs
- British Heart Foundation
- Age UK
- National Trust
- Tenovus Cancer Care
- Marie Curie
The benefits of having a will
Making a will means that you can be clear about who inherits (and who doesn’t inherit) your assets, belongings and possessions after you die. Alongside preventing added stress and complications for your loved ones, you can also include information such as the sort of funeral you would like and who will care for your children. You can also leave a legacy to help your chosen charities.
How to get started on the Free Will Month initiative
- Visit the Free Wills Month website and enter your details to find participating solicitors near you.
- Book an appointment.
- The solicitor will help you to draw up a will that accurately reflects your wishes. Although you’re under no obligation to do so, you can consider leaving a gift for the Free Wills Month supporting charities.
If you’re a couple and you want to make an identical will (leave your assets to one another) only one of you will need to have reached the age of 55 years to qualify for this initiative.
